Looking a gift fish in the eye …

The next early season outing was for great fishing mates Adrian & Rob. Adrian’s partner had wisely chosen an extended fly-fishing workshop/tour for him to celebrate on one of those special birthdays and of course Rob had to help arrange it and come along to see that Adrian did it right!

It was a great trip, with Adrian opening the score with a feisty rainbow, above, then following up with this very good wild brown, below.

Rob finally got on the score sheet with this nice plump rainbow, below left. nicely handled amongst the trees.

And, after some misses and a dropped fish, Rob finally gets his first wild brown to the net, above right.

The only tough time was over dinner on the Saturday night (AFL finals time) as Adrian and Rob are staunch Pies and the guide was similarly barracking for the Saints.

However, the tension was more than offset by Adrian kindly (and skilfully) providing wild brown trout for entree.

Despite the September equinoxal winds, excused down here at this time of year, it was a very successful and enjoyable trip.

Lively kickstart to season

Maurice, from South Africa, had some good times at the start of September. Although we did have had tough windy weather, there were a couple of days out of the box at Currawong Lakes.

First up on day 1 Maurice, above, gets a 3lb + wild brown trout to hand on an un-weighted black nymph.

Then follows up by polaroiding this 4lb + one only 4m off the shoreline.

Spent about an hour tracking this one’s movements and it finally fell to a well placed small brown nymph. For early season it was a top trip.
