Jim, Angus and Vincent had a successful introduction to fly fishing day one at Currawong’s stillwater with fish to hand all round, and a steeper learning curve day two on the wilder rivers where the fish, wind and conditions made for a lot of knowledge being acquired, and no fish playing ‘take the fly’.
This was after pelican ‘Pete (or Peta)’ had its solo sail past — very unusual to see one this far from the coast on fresh water in Tassie.

First up Angus gets the boys away with this lovely 4lb brown, polaroided coming on to the dry.

Then Jim gets into the action, above, releasing his lovely brown and finally Vincent stalked this one, below, for quite a while in very shallow edges before fooling it with a well presented emerger.

Marcus and good mate Campbell came down for three guided days fly in early December.
Marcus to get back in the swing, which he did successfully and Campbell to be introduced to the gentle art.
Above, Marcus is onto a nice solid and very feisty rainbow on the emerger, while below, Campbell after a steep learning curve on day one with dropped fish, missed chances and a break-off on a ‘big’ brown, came good on day two with this lovely wild river brown trout, again on the emerger, for entre as his first wild brown to hand.

Here Masako and Jin are getting started on their one day fly fishing workshop.
Although both were really getting the hang of things by the end, having covered casting basics with wet fly, dry fly and single nymph work, the fish did not play their part well with both missing some chances and Masako losing a big brown on the dry in the afternoon … but next time!

Gerald, one of Red Tag’s favourite ‘wand wavers’, was back again to give his new prothesis a work out and had success all round.
Off to a flying start on the river day one this nice wild brown netted very early, when the glass and the fish both went down around lunch time.

Not to be deterred, next day over to the Currawong Lakes and although still tough weather, good fish to hand with this lovely polaroided brown to finish the trip.
Dropped off back in town to the words, ‘new year the grasshopper feeders Rog’!
