Father and Son Spring success

Ken and son Campbell wanted to get into fly fishing so had a introductory workshop recently. Not only introduced to the skills of casting etc, but also to some nice wild browns as well on their first outing. Below, Ken breaks his duck and nets this wild brown trout. Then not to be outdone by … Continue reading Father and Son Spring success

Time to Tie

Next month will be the start of the mayfly hatches around our rivers and lower lakes. If you want to have a go at bringing a sucessful fly you tied yourself, in my view the Dark Brown Emerger is one of the best. Also a great all round fly for the majority of the season … Continue reading Time to Tie

Looking a gift fish in the eye …

The next early season outing was for great fishing mates Adrian & Rob. Adrian’s partner had wisely chosen an extended fly-fishing workshop/tour for him to celebrate on one of those special birthdays and of course Rob had to help arrange it and come along to see that Adrian did it right! It was a great … Continue reading Looking a gift fish in the eye …

Lively kickstart to season

Maurice, from South Africa, had some good times at the start of September. Although we did have had tough windy weather, there were a couple of days out of the box at Currawong Lakes. Finally managed to get the time together and this is the result. A great couple of days, learnt … Continue reading Last wild brown trout outing for the 07/08 season

Wow! what a day — a new ‘all time’ top rod

“Yes, think you should get a few today”, was my reply. jack-2.jpg “Nice little wild brown this one” was the next comment after the second cast of the day; “bit out of practice” was heard soon after three fish dropped in the next four casts … By a slightly delayed lunch time, after numerous missed opportunities, dropped fish and returned wild browns, the count stood at 25 to hand. … What a day, it was a delight to guide Jack, I believe his secret to success was the combination of his enthusiasm for the smaller streams, he was ‘in tune ’ with that environment and his determination to ‘present’ the dry as best he could to all rising fish and potential trout holding spots.

Lady luck? No. Good presentation, Yes!

Debbie not only had great weather for her 3-day introductory flyfishing workshop, but had success on both the lake and river environments with rainbows and wild browns to hand. Day one was the Currawong lakes intro day and where rainbows were brought to hand. This was followed by the river wild browns where this nice … Continue reading Lady luck? No. Good presentation, Yes!
