A Guiding Life

Hi Everyone, the ‘Red Tag Story’ up until July 2023 as seen through the eyes of the founder, Roger Butler, prior to my acquisition.
The following is the Introductory Page and Front Cover of Roger’s Memoirs covering the first 27 years of Red Tag Trout Tours fly guiding service.

Introduction

After almost three decades of running Red Tag Trout Tours then selling the business to Ray Curran back in July 2023, (enforced) retirement through peripheral neuropathy, it meant no more 6a.m. starts, with sun, wind, rain, occasional snow and gear packing – gee I miss it!

It also meant I had a head full of wonderful memories and a hard drive with thousands of images calling out for exposure.

These memoirs are not aimed at what or how to fly fish or guide, but do hold a few nuggets of information and tips that hopefully may encourage and / or give you confidence in stalking and presenting to those wily and wild trout of Tasmania.

All stories contained in this missive have at least a skeleton of truth onto which you can add the flesh of your own imagination.

Those featured here when contacted were enthusiastic in their support no one more so than …

“Dear Roger,
“I would be as happy as a seagull with a French fry to appear in your book. Someone should know about our rough and rowdy ways down by the riverside. At least one paragraph could be dedicated to your cooking skills.”
“Wishing you all the best with your ventures and raising a glass to your good health.”
